im not sure, but i highly doubt they would send a pregnant woman to war. i agree that they should send convicts(only ones who are in prison now; not ex-cons), what a great way to free up some space in our prisons.

If you think about it.. convicts have already lost their freedom, it's a way to earn it back. "... I offer you prison, or Vietnam"

The problem with the draft now is the same as it was with Vietnam. Americans aren't used to it. We've got this sense of entitlement that we shouldn't have to serve unless it's a personal choice. This wasn't an issue until Vietnam because that was the first war after the peacetime draft was eliminated. With the peacetime draft, anybody could be drafted, whether we were in the middle of a war or not (Re: Elvis in the late fifties). So, when a war was on, people did what they saw as their duty.

As far as not serving, any medical problems will get you an exemption, as will tattoos above your collar or below your wrist. Also, it is likely that unless the government was in dire need of soldiers, full-time students would be able to defer.

Are you sure about that tattoo thing? Can they just make you get them removed? If not, that sounds like a pretty damn easy way to get out of service! I was already thinking about maybe getting a tattoo on one of my hands and probably something on my back that would extend up my neck, not to mention tattoos in other places.

As of now, you can't join the military with tattoos that would be visible in the dress uniform. The reason is that they've had a lot of problems with gangs and are really wary of possible gang affiliations, especially vissible representations. So, it is possible that they would remove them for you but unlikely. And considering the expense, I'm pretty sure they couldn't force you to do it on your own.

You also can't join up if you have any legal issues pending. That means that if you're on probation or waiting to go to court, you're out of the running.
